AgriCube incorporates an integrated laboratory (Agrilab) designed for the analysis of crops in vertical farming: from °Brix, pH/EC and temperature, to microscopic observation and sample recording. Proinsener manufactures the module with a sandwich-panel interior, stainless steel workbenches and split-type ventilation to ensure a controlled and durable environment. The aim: to provide ready-to-use facilities for testing and teaching. Each client applies their own protocols and regulations.
What is it and what is it used for?
Agrilab is a fully-equipped modular unit, divided into a growing area and a laboratory area. The latter is dedicated to testing growing recipes and irrigation methods, and analysing the results. Designed for R&D centres, agricultural colleges and researchers who need to iterate quickly under reproducible vertical farming conditions, it is also suitable for courses, demonstrations and new lines of development.
- Workflow (from cultivation to data)
- The trays arrive from the cultivation room.
- Cultures are washed in a sink with drainage to the outside.
- Handling (cutting, drying, sample preparation) takes place on a dedicated workbench.
- Measurements: °Brix, pH/EC/temperature, biomass, microscopic observation.
- Temporary storage in a display fridge and on a germination shelf.
- Results are recorded using the software or template of the customer’s choice.
Note on use: AgriCube provides the facilities (infrastructure and equipment). The frequency of testing, SOPs, standards and records are defined by the user in accordance with their activities and the applicable regulations.
Integrated equipment
- Workbench (for main and portable equipment).
- Sink (for washing cultures; drainage to the outside of the container).
- Vegetable preparation table (cutting, drying, measurements).
- Storage cupboard (equipment, consumables, documentation).
- Germination rack (galvanised steel shelving for trays during the study).
- Magnetic stirrer: 100–1500 rpm.
- Trinocular microscope: SW380T 40X–2500X with 4 DIN achromatic objectives (6 magnifications: 40X, 100X, 250X, 400X, 1000X, 2500X).
- Magnifying lamp.
- Industrial display fridge (for samples).
- Handheld EC, pH and temperature meter (4-in-1 tester, IP67, 0.01 resolution with automatic temperature compensation).
- Handheld refractometer: 0–32 % ATC.
- Analytical balance: 500 g × 0.001 g (LCD display).
Use cases
- Recipe R&D: comparing nutrient solutions, irrigation times and photoperiods by species.
- Quality control: batch uniformity, °Brix, pH/EC prior to harvest.
- Teaching and training: laboratory practicals applied to vertical farming.
- Commercial demonstration: objective evidence for decision-making.
Customer benefits
- Closed-loop system: crop trials + laboratory verification, all within the same module.
- Accelerated learning: fewer trips, less friction between teams.
- Reproducibility: stable environment and laboratory-grade materials.
- Training: space suitable for on-site practical training.
“Agrilab enables data to be generated right alongside the crop. It is the quickest way to validate recipes, teach best practice and document results in a controlled environment.” —Javier Cabrera López, Master’s in Advanced Mechanical Engineering Design.
